FASTA

Overview

FASTA is a searching program for biological sequence databases, written and distributed by Dr. William R. Pearson of the University of Virginia. The program uses the FASTA algorithm (see references below) to compare a protein sequence query to a protein sequence library or a DNAsequence query to a DNA sequence library.

Restrictions on Use

There are currently no restrictions on use.

Set Up Procedure

The bundle is contained within the directory /share/apps/supported/fasta, this package can be loaded using the bioinformatics module.

Running the Code

In general, when one refers to FASTA, one is usually referring to the fasta3 or fasta3_t programs above. Also, FASTA is pronounced like "fast-aye."
