CUG Summit 2002

The University of Manchester is hosting the CUG Summit 2002, from 20-24 May.

With leading members of the Cray and SGI organisations present it gives you the ideal opportunity to hear first hand the aims and current directions of the two companies, to influence the focus of current development and to meet those responsible for bringing the machines and tools of these two companies to you. It is also a great opportunity to hear the experiences and work of others in the HPC user community.

Globus2.0 on fermat

Over the next few weeks we are working on providing the long awaited update to Globus, Globus 2.0. During this period Globus users should expect a few small problems with the original Globus installation as the software is rolled out. Naturally we will try to keep these disruptions to a minimum.

MPT 1.5.3

The following is a summary of the new features available in mpt 1.5.3, to see a more detailed description, type

grelnotes -rpath /opt/mpt/1.5.3.0/usr/relnotes mpt at the fermat command line, and look at section 5.14

To switch to the new module, use the module swap command.

Enhanced Single-Copy Mode:

Single copy send/receive mode enhanced for processes residing on the same host. Previously this feature was enabled only for data residing in the symmetric heap. To enable, set the MPI_BUFFER_MAX environment variable to the size of minimum. For more info see man MPI_BUFFER_MAX

MPI_Alloc_mem and MPI_Free_mem Functionality:

You can now use MPI-2 functions to allocate dynamic memory. The Fortran bindings for this will work only with -64 applications.

MPI_Transfer_of_handles Functions:

These functions convert a fortran integer to the appropriate C handle and vice-versa. Please see the release notes for the list of routines.

PVM:

By MPT 1.6 SGI plan to remove PVM from the MPT bundle, it will however, be supported on a courtesy basis and as part of a separate bundle. There will be no future PVM bug fixes
