CSAR Bulletin issued in April 2004

Interactive CPU Limits on Newton

Please note the implementation of limits on interactive CPU usage as follows - on the interactive/login node, newt64i, a limit of 60 minutes of interactive CPU usage will be implemented on 5th May 2004. This will not of course affect your production/batch work via LSF.

CASTEP available on Newton

Castep has been made available to licensed users on Newton for some time, however the binary has not been an optimal one. In conjunction with CCLRC we have now solved this problem and have an optimal version available for use. Please load the castep3.0 module after contacting the CSAR helpdesk to gain access to the licensed software.

UK National Grid Service

From the 5th April 2004, the UK National Grid Service (NGS) entered its initial production phase which is funded to provide a significant resource for the UK e-Science Community. The four new clusters, supplied and maintained by ClusterVision and hosted by the University of Manchester, CCLRC (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory), University of Oxford and the White Rose Grid (Leeds) are now available for early adopter users to register. As part of the initial 'core' the NGS also includes access to the resources of the HPCx and CSAR services. Further information on the UK National Grid Service and how to register as a user can be found at www.ngs.ac.uk
